Richard will discuss the friendly relationship between Canton's pioneers & the local Native Americans who held war dances at Meyers Lake & joined the early Cantonians for target games on Public Square.
From prehistoric times, after the Laurentian Glacier had left "glacier puddles" behind (Nobel's Pond, Meters Lake, Congress Lake) as it melted away northward to the Artic, and as late as Civil War days, there were Native Americans who considered the Stark County area home territory. This talk also looks at the friendly relationship between Canton's pioneers in 1805 and the local native Americans who held war dances at Meyers Lake and joined the early Cantonians for target games on public square, with the Indians generally taking home the prize.
