known throughout the world as being the most successful American songwriting team of all-time,


Richard Rodgers (the music), and Oscar Hammerstein (the lyrics), are responsible for the innovative musical Oklahoma in 1943, a musical that is considered "the single most influential work in the American musical theatre." This first great success, Oklahoma, was quickly followed by State Fair, Carousel, South Pacific, The King & I, and Cinderella. Their very last effort before Mr. Hammerstein's death in 1961 was The Sound of Music, a musical that has become the world's most beloved musical of all-time.

Richard Haldi is a Canton native and the author of 3 books about local history. Since his retirement he lectures all around the county covering 40 different topics dealing with the history of Stark County.
