Spring Hill Historic Home delves into the meaning behind Juneteenth and the historical events that preceded the end of slavery two years after President Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation.


Also known as “Emancipation Day” or “Black Independence Day,” Juneteenth (June nineteenth) is commemorated as the end of slavery in Texas—the last holdout against Black freedom from slavery.
