The Sept. 18 meeting of the Canton Audubon Society at 7 p.m. at the Sippo Lake Park Exploration Gateway, 5712-12th St. NW, Perry Township, will feature a presentation by Matt Courtman, former president of the Louisiana Ornithological Society, who thinks he and his team of researchers have discovered a colony of the believed-extinct Ivory-Billed Woodpeckers. A native of Monroe, La., Courtman graduated from the University of California, Berkley, and the University of Virginia School of Law. He has contributed to several birding publications, including Roger Tory Peterson’s Field Guide to the Birds, which included one of his sightings for the range map of the American Goldfinch.
A pre-meeting bird walk will begin at 5:30 p.m. on the south balcony of the Sippo Lake Park Exploration Gateway and will walk east. The public is welcome to attend both the walk and presentation. Refreshments will be served.
