Audubon Meeting April 17: Bird Atlas

Wednesday, April 17 - 7:00 PM

The April 17 meeting of the Canton Audubon Society at 7 p.m. at the Exploration Gateway at Sippo Lake Park will feature a presentation by Matthew Shumar of Columbus, program coordinator for OBCI, the Ohio Bird Conservation Initiative.

Shumar will familiarize attendees with  “The Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in Ohio: Uncovering 25 Years of Change in Ohio’s Avifauna.”  A co-editor of the new book, Shumar will discuss how information generated for the Atlas is providing important insight into land use and climate factors driving changes in bird populations. Twenty-five years after the publication of the state’s first breeding bird atlas, “The Second Atlas of Breeding Birds in Ohio” provides important new information documenting the current distribution and changes in status for more than 200 bird species, including five new breeding species
